DAVID M. JACOBS, Ph.D.
David Jacobs, Associate Professor of History at Temple University in
Philadelphia, is one of the best-know and most respected UFO abduction
researchers in the world. His research began in the mid-1960's when he was
a graduate student in American history at the University of Wisconsin,
where he received his doctorate. After years of experience with sightings
paradigms that historians developed to determine the credibility of
innumerable UFO reports, Jacobs, with great skepticism, began examining
claims of alien abductions. Since 1986, he has conducted more than seven
hundred and fifty hypnotic regressions with alleged abductees. His research
takes into account objections such as False Memory Syndrome, memories of
sexual abuse, media contamination, leading the witnesses, mutual
confirmational fantasies and abduction confabulation. If the claims of
abductees were merely psychological, Jacobs notes, the details would tend
to vary from case to case rather than holding to the consistent patterns he
has repeatedly observed.
Professor Jacobs has written and delivered many articles, papers and
lectures on UFOs and abductions. He has also been a guest on hundreds of
radio and television shows, including Larry King Live, A Current Affair,
Hard Copy, Entertainment Tonight, The Joan Rivers Show, The Geraldo Rivera
Show, CNBC, CNN News, BBC, The Art Bell Show and documentaries on The
Discovery Channel, The Arts and Entertainment Network and The Learning
Channel. For the past nineteen years, has taught the only regular
curriculum university course on UFOs: "UFOs and American Society" at Temple
University. Jacobs books include The UFO Controversy in America, Secret
Life: Firsthand Accounts of UFO Abductions, and most recently, The Threat:
What the Aliens Really Want...and How They Plan to Get It.
